Picture of Peach Kid Turned Young Adult!

What do the God cards mean to me? The God cards are 42 attributes of God. They clearly and in a way that relates to me lay out who God is. It is easy to understand as a kid, and now as an 18 year old, I still lean on these cards when I need some reminders. The God cards have been instrumental in my life. They set the foundation for me on how to view God. I can’t remember a time without knowing the truth of the Bible. The Whole Peach was crucial in that learning. Sitting around the kitchen table as a family drawing pictures and looking for verses in our Bible based on the God card we were studying were some of the most foundational times of my spiritual walk. I...

Quarantine Day ?!?! – Sharing My Crazy with You

In these days of house arrest and forced “homeschooling,” I have been thinking alot about you “young mama’s.” Your days are not easy when all is as planned and there is freedom to leave the confines of your four walls, so I know that these past few weeks and certainly the weeks to come are not and will not be easy. Do I hear an AMEN! So, I wanted to share some of my crazy with you! One of my favorite writers is Tillie Olsen, and she has a great line in her short story, “I Stand Here Ironing” that says: “We are just peaceful wrecks holding hands with other peaceful wrecks.” That is me and you. We all have our dose of...

Church at the Kitchen Table – Simple Steps!

My daughter, Maya Hagan, just wrote some words this week entitled “Uncharted Territory,” and I think that we would all agree the spread of the coronavirus in the details of our days is certainly a place we have never been. In this place, there could be fear and possibly some frustrations. I know that for the three young people living in my home as well as Ron and I we are experiencing a myriad of fears and frustrations. In fact, we made a list of them on Sunday as we were having church around our kitchen table. It was important to give everyone a chance to share some words and explain their thoughts. With Maya and Ada being seniors in high school, they are...

1 question+5 Bibles=1 great conversation around our kitchen table

Both Ron and I could tell our family needed a moment to breathe and find our center again. We were all moving quickly in the details of our day, and it was a great morning to jump off the tracks and have some words together. Step 1: I cut some construction paper into squares and passed one out to everyone at the table to write the answer to my one question – What is your challenge right now? We each took a minute to write, and then we shared. Ron – struggling to find passion and purpose in my work, but having financial goals for the family – now and in the future Carson – school – boring and same thing over and over again Ada – waking up early and the...

Time together, working it out . . . .

Time together, working it out . . . .

We had some church around our kitchen table that was rich! Three Questions, one piece of paper, a marker and a Bible! That was it and off we ran. I posed the first question for us all to write down our response on our paper. Question #1 – What is a challenge to you right now? What is causing you some pause or stress? We all wrote down our thoughts on our piece of paper. No conversation as of yet. I threw out the next question for reflection. Question #2 – What is the enemy trying to get you to believe about that problem/struggle/issue? What are the agreements he is trying to get you to make? Then, I threw out the last question but still now conversation as...

12 Days of RAK!

12 Days of RAK!

As Christians, our year is divided into six seasons – the season of Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Ordinary Time. These seasons follow and highlight the story of our faith. In the season of Advent, we anticipate the arrival of Jesus walking with us on this Earth. For the season of Christmas, we now celebrate he has come – God in human form through Jesus the Christ! In the season of Epiphany, we remember the Wise Men coming to bring Jesus gifts and by their coming, they “reveal” (meaning of the word epiphany) to the world the great king has come to us all, and he is due honor! In the season of Lent, we are preparing our hearts and minds for Easter,...

“A Story in the Sunflower”

“A Story in the Sunflower”

One of life’s reminders that God is both Sovereign and Creator. This random sunflower sprouted this Spring in one of our empty random pots. It has become one of our family favorites, and it reminds us that Father will do what he wills to do in his perfect timing. This pot was willing and ready to receive it! The work is not finished, though. When God created this lovely friend a few weeks ago, he had a plan for it. Did you know that a sunflower is heliotropic? One of its coolest attributes is that it orients itself to the sun…all of the time. Its scientific name, Helianthus, means that it is the “flower of the sun.” From the sunrise in the...

“big ole fits and eyes to see!”

Posted by on May 11, 2016 in A Community, A Story | 0 comments

just found this in my journal stash . . . a great word for me this morning and maybe for you! a day in the life on October 10, 2012~ Throwing the laundry in the washing machine with a bit more force this morning. . . Watching Ron walk out the door to “ensure pension safety” in the investment community with truth and tactics. Wishing my moment involved more than dirty clothes and if the girls want the knit sheets back on their beds???? That is my question and thus the quest for my moment. Father, give me eyes to see the extravagant in dirty clothes, beds that need changing and this home being my workplace for today. Next moment – Maya (age 10) walks into the...
