What do the God cards mean to me? The God cards are 42 attributes of God. They clearly and in a way that relates to me lay out who God is. It is easy to understand as a kid, and now as an 18 year old, I still lean on these cards when I need some reminders. The God cards have been instrumental in my life. They set the foundation for me on how to view God. I can’t remember a time without knowing the truth of the Bible. The Whole Peach was crucial in that learning. Sitting around the kitchen table as a family drawing pictures and looking for verses in our Bible based on the God card we were studying were some of the most foundational times of my spiritual walk. I...
Read MoreMy daughter, Maya Hagan, just wrote some words this week entitled “Uncharted Territory,” and I think that we would all agree the spread of the coronavirus in the details of our days is certainly a place we have never been. In this place, there could be fear and possibly some frustrations. I know that for the three young people living in my home as well as Ron and I we are experiencing a myriad of fears and frustrations. In fact, we made a list of them on Sunday as we were having church around our kitchen table. It was important to give everyone a chance to share some words and explain their thoughts. With Maya and Ada being seniors in high school, they are...
Read MoreWe had some church around our kitchen table that was rich! Three Questions, one piece of paper, a marker and a Bible! That was it and off we ran. I posed the first question for us all to write down our response on our paper. Question #1 – What is a challenge to you right now? What is causing you some pause or stress? We all wrote down our thoughts on our piece of paper. No conversation as of yet. I threw out the next question for reflection. Question #2 – What is the enemy trying to get you to believe about that problem/struggle/issue? What are the agreements he is trying to get you to make? Then, I threw out the last question but still now conversation as...
Read MoreIn whatever wilderness you are wandering, remember these words in Jeremiah 31. They are for us too! Father is out looking for us! As we search, as we yearn, as we wonder – is there rest for our weariness? Father says yes. More than that, Father comes looking. He comes looking for us. Check out the truth I read this morning over cereal and coffee. “This is the way God put it: ‘They found grace out in the desert, these people who survived the killing. Israel, out looking for a place to rest, met God out looking for them!'” Jeremiah 31:2 from The Message Ron had asked what God card we were studying this week. He went to the Plan and saw that we had...
Read MoreStarted our year in “love,” because our family desperately needed some! Why is it that Christmas break breeds some sibling shenanigans? We all started in Matthew 22:37-40 which then led us to the Shema found in Deuteronomy 6! Praying this for all of our homes this morning! “God, our God! God the one and only! Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that’s in you, love him with all you’ve got! Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children.” from The...
Read MoreSometimes after dinner, we will play a game or two before bedtime! Our kids love all kinds of games, but any chance to get Daddy silly is always a bonus in our house! So, they wanted to play charades, and then one of them had the idea to play it with the God cards. Ron and I couldn’t disagree with such a great idea! Maybe they just wanted to stay up later, and they knew this topic would give them a few more minutes. But maybe not!!!!! Somebody grabbed the God card poster. The first person to act picked a number between 1-42. We wrote the number down on a post-it note just so we would remember which cards have been picked. Once they picked a number, they looked at...
