What do the God cards mean to me?
The God cards are 42 attributes of God. They clearly and in a way that relates to me lay out who God is. It is easy to understand as a kid, and now as an 18 year old, I still lean on these cards when I need some reminders.
The God cards have been instrumental in my life. They set the foundation for me on how to view God. I can’t remember a time without knowing the truth of the Bible. The Whole Peach was crucial in that learning. Sitting around the kitchen table as a family drawing pictures and looking for verses in our Bible based on the God card we were studying were some of the most foundational times of my spiritual walk. I don’t know all the science behind it, but I do that all those kitchen table moments made the Bible stick in my head and heart.
Now as a freshman in college, I can say it worked. The Whole Peach worked, and I am a walking success story for that. Not because of anything I did, and not really because of the physical cards, but because my parents were faithful to sit down and ask themselves, “how do we put truth in the heads and hearts of our kids?” The result of that faithfulness is that they ushered the living and breathing truth into our lives that then allowed Father to work.
These past few months have been some of the hardest months I have ever walked through, but at same time the most beautiful months I have walked through. I have learned a new dependence on God that I didn’t know existed. I truly need His joy to wake up in the morning. I need his love to be able to deal with hard people. I need his wisdom to make decisions that are for my best. I can trust Him for those things because I know who He is.
I know that he is a promise keeper. He is not going to let me down because He says He’s not going to. I know that He is my Valentine. He loves me and gives me love to be able to extend to others. I know that He is my Road Map. He will guide my path in this crazy world, and I don’t have to worry. I know that he is my Creator because of the sunrise that I wake up to every morning.
So, I am very thankful for my parents and their willingness to build into Ada, Carson, and I the way they have. I am thankful for the faithfulness of Father that he would be so kind to speak through the words of The Whole Peach. I am so thankful to know the God of this universe in such a personal and intimate way.
