We are focusing on God card #4 this week – God is our Blanket/Mr. Bear. I believe God comforts me. For our children, blankets were very important when they were young. Nap time would not happen unless the blanket was present! For Carson, his Mr. Bears were also very important. He actually has 2 Mr. Bears. They were were given to Maya and Ada as a baby gift, and they never took to them. When Carson was a baby, I put them in his crib more for decoration than anything else. But as he grew, I began noticing he would wake up from a nap with them in hand. I began calling them his Mr. Bears, and it stuck. Ada and Maya are not exactly happy with this God card, because I...
Read MoreAfter the 3rd “get-up” and last “tuck in” last night, I was reaching deep into my bag of tricks to find the thing that would comfort Maya’s crying eyes. Ron had left for Louisiana yesterday afternoon, and Maya was overcome with sadness and fear. “I just miss Daddy. I don’t feel comfortable when he is gone. Aren’t you scared all by yourself, Mommy? What if?” And so the conversation went – the 1st, 2nd and 3rd time. We hugged; we prayed; we talked logically through all the options; we hugged again. We even called Daddy. On this day, Ada chose the God card and worked out what we were going to do! You can see her plan in the picture above. It was a rich time! I also hope for your family that it is yet another reminder of the simplicity of the God cards but the depth of the conversation. For Ada to lead creates a deeper understanding for her of this truth, and a “value” that they all place on the content, because they can choose and be in charge. It is a “win-win” all around! Be sure and look closely at the picture above. She...
Read MoreHave you ever felt ripped – ripped off, ripped out, ripped apart, ripped up? There have been some days when I am feeling pretty “ripped” even before the schedule gets going. The thoughts in my head have already consumed me. The details of the day seem daunting to say the least. I just begin the day “undone.” There is even the thought, “Maybe if I put the covers over my head and lie real still, they will think I am gone.” During one of these “undone” days, I ended up having an incredible conversation with Father God on this very topic. I had just finished breakfast and realized that I had a few moments before I needed to get going. I had the idea of...
