What are the Me cards?
The Me cards are a result of our own journey and our hope to give Maya, Ada and Carson the truth about who they are. They are 7 statements that share his promises of our identity given through Jesus Christ. After the statement is a verse from the Bible, some questions for your family and a prayer.
When purchasing the Me cards, you are getting 1 poster and 7 cards. The poster shows you first how the Me cards fit into the overall plan. Second, there is a “Getting Started” guide that shows you the simple way to walk through a Me card with your children. Last, you will receive 7 cards that will lead you year after year in great conversations with your family.
When purchasing the Me card Commune studies, you are getting 4 weeks of small group curriculum geared for elementary age children but certainly could be tailored to kids older or younger than elementary. If you want to work through the Me cards together with other families, this is the perfect addition to your Me cards. It is easy to facilitate and simple to deliver!
How do I use the Me cards?
The Me cards have started the conversation for our family with Father God and his words, the Bible. They keep us focused on his promises of who we are. All you have to do is gather your family around the table, put your Bibles in the center of things, grab a card and begin. The only other matierals you might need is construction paper and markers to draw some pictures of what you discover. Use the Me cards as part of your family conversation year after year after year.
Why Me cards?
We all base our identity on something.
Let’s go back a few years to the first time Ron and I heard the words – identity in Christ. A peculiar phrase. We believed in Jesus Christ but had never really heard that we had an identity in him. What does that mean?
Years later, we had children (Maya, Ada and Carson). And though it was difficult to put any thoughts together at the time, we did think about what we should be teaching them and how to help them make their own way in this world. We came back again to this phrase – identity in Christ.
The Bible has things to say about who we are, and these things are not based on our performance. The truth is there in his words to us. They are a gift or a treasure from God and through Jesus Christ, he invites us to live from these truths.
