eat

What is eat?

. . . . a tool to give you great ideas for your family’s physical health.

Our body is his temple, and we need some ideas for healthy eating. So, I started cutting and creating, researching and refining, and this is what I have learned so far.

I have created some downloads full of ideas to get you thinking what may work for your family!

“Steps in our Story and Ideas for Yours” is a list of 13 things I wished someone would have told me when I was a new mom. From making a snack drawer in the refrigerator to “spinach roll-ups,” it is just a list of things that have worked in our house and steps we have taken on the journey.

“Absolute Favorite Meals” is again a simple list of meals we love. I am not a chef, and I need it simple. So, I just wanted to give you some ideas of meals that are working in our house.

“Taking it Up a Notch” are some things that I added slowly along the way. I make my own broth and then add it to alot of my recipes. I have a great green smoothie concoction that I drink in the morning. And who can live without cultured vegetables and homemade salad dressing?????

My hope for these downloads is to get you thinking! I am just at the beginning of this journey, and there is so much more to learn! But you, like me, can begin where you are and make some great choices for your family! And I hope you start sharing your great ideas with us!

How do I use eat?

1. Read our experiences and ideas available for download.
2. Take a step. On this journey of health, “one thing” is my mantra. Add one new thing and take one step each week. Refer to the Eat downloads for ideas.
3. Come to an Eat event or email me at karla@thewholepeach.com if you want to talk more.

Why eat?

It was the fall of 2006, and I had fallen down and try as I may I couldn’t put myself back together again. The demands of the day were too much for me, and I had reached my end by about 9:00 each morning. As a young mother working part-time, I just couldn’t keep it together anymore or at least appear as though it was together. I was undone, and my self-sufficiency could not produce success. I was not present in any part of my life and going through the motions was not an option.

I prayed and researched all possible avenues. I needed strength for my day and energy for my children. I wanted a face that smiled and eyes that focused. I met with my doctor to discuss pharmaceutical answers. Was I depressed? As I have struggled with migraine headaches, I have walked the road that led to the pharmacy, and I just didn’t want to tie myself to that answer. I also considered caffeine. I have also walked this road before and detoxed from this answer before. And I definitely did not want to get tied up with needing my coffee and diet coke every day to get through the moments. So, I continued praying and thinking. There must be an answer that leads to health, an answer in places of Father God’s creation. He knows what I am going through. He must have thought of this and prepared for it. That is who he is. Father God, what do you have to say about my plight? What have you created that will heal my fatigue and increase my stamina?

Somewhere in this research, I had a divine appointment in the bathroom at the YMCA. I had known of Kelly Mohorc from a friend at Pantego Bible Church and had heard that she knew things of health and nutrition. And when I saw her that day, I knew immediately that she was another important conversation for me to have. So, I followed her in the bathroom and said, “I know that you don’t know me, but I need to know you.” This crazy meeting blossomed into a rich friendship, and I count it a great blessing that Father God weaved Kelly into my story. She answered the questions that I didn’t know to ask and revealed just what I had supposed – Father God has created an extravagant abundance of foods that will lead to health, life and vitality. I don’t have to settle for pharmaceutical drugs, caffeine, chocolate cake and cheetoes to get me through the day. I can look to his creation and build a foundation of health that will impact my family, marriage and career for the good. He has my best in mind and provided for it before I even knew to ask. So, as Kelly offered a hand to me, I want to offer a hand to you. Here is some of what I am learning and how it is enriching my life. You will receive such blessing as you seek for yourself Father God’s best for your health. What you put in your mouth is vitally important! Don’t settle! Build a foundation of health for yourself and your family.

“For we are the temple of the living God…. Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”
2 Corinthians 6:16 and 7:1

And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that exercise plays a vital part as well in your health. We all know it; I doubt any of us would disagree, but getting our butts off the couch and moving is another issue all together. I have also been on all parts of the continuum – my happy self on the couch, just walking out the front door for a walk around the neighborhood to working out 4 days a week in the gym. The “one step” mantra plays into the exercise piece as well. To couple the healthy eating with the physical exercise is a powerful combination. From where-ever you are, take a step.
