“A Day of Discovery”

What is Columbus Day? Why is it relevant today? Technically, it’s a celebration of Christopher Columbus’ day of discovering the Americas. In 1492, many new and beautiful lands were discovered by the European community. While I’m not going to delve into a history lesson (as my children collectively sigh), this day reminds us that a mindset of discovery leads to new opportunities. Might I actually expand that statement a bit to say that without discovering, we miss out on what’s already been prepared for us. Listen for a moment… “But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all...

“The Pursuit Is As Good As The Gift!”

A few months ago I brought Maya and Ada with me to Carson’s baseball coaching session with Russell. He has created us in his image. In his image, in his being, there are three: Father, Son, and Spirit. Each of these is God. I believe he calls us into a team (community) in order to strengthen, fight, and win for each other. I saw this play out this week. A close...

“Let Me Fill the Cracks!”

You know those 10×10″ floor tiles, the ones that look really cool on kitchen floors? Well, they have mortar in between. In a wonderfully seasoned 50 year old pier and beam home, the mortar cracks and chips due to settling and shifting. As I sit in one of my most favorite places – my chair at our long farm house kitchen table, I’m struck by the brilliance of the moment: the bright sunshine, the cardinals feasting on breakfast, Maya, Ada, and Carson worshipping and creating as the Spirit guides them, and Karla and I sharing a cup of coffee and our vision and dreams for our family’s walk with Father. It’s a weighty discussion. It comes...
