“Tucking the Girls Into Bed”

I was tucking the girls into bed last night, and somehow we got on a discussion about baptism. I think they had mentioned at church that they were going to have a baptism soon. Perhaps that is why it was on Maya’s mind. She has been contemplating it for some time now. And so the conversation goes like this. Maya: “Mom, I really need to think about this baptism thing.” Me: “Sure honey, whenever you and Father make that decision that it is time to tell the world, you go for it.” Maya: “Yea. I know.” Me: “Good night, girlies. Love you soooo much!” Maya: “Mom, you know that is why I like the God cards. Well the Me...

“Having Church on the Way to Baseball” (God card #30 – Hide and Seek)

We were all driving to Burleson for day two of a baseball tournament for Carson. It was Sunday, and we were on the move. So, we had church in the car, and this is how it went – simple but great stuff! The God card for this week is #30. I believe God plays hide and seek. He wants to be found. 1. We passed the God card around the car, and everyone read a verse. 2. I then asked: “What phrase do you remember? Which verse stands out to you?” Carson liked Jeremiah 29, because that is his baseball number! And as we were driving to a game, it struck close to home. And so it went. It was important that we all went around and just shared a simple thought. 3. Second...

“What Really Happened at the Hagan House!” (God card #4 – Blanket/Mr. Bear)

We are focusing on God card #4 this week – God is our Blanket/Mr. Bear. I believe God comforts me. For our children, blankets were very important when they were young. Nap time would not happen unless the blanket was present! For Carson, his Mr. Bears were also very important. He actually has 2 Mr. Bears. They were were given to Maya and Ada as a baby gift, and they never took to them. When Carson was a baby, I put them in his crib more for decoration than anything else. But as he grew, I began noticing he would wake up from a nap with them in hand. I began calling them his Mr. Bears, and it stuck. Ada and Maya are not exactly happy with this God card, because I...

So, you have purchased the God cards and looked over the handy poster that comes with them. You read the introduction, agreed with the importance of this endeavor and attempted to understand the “Getting Started” section, but you still aren’t quite sure how this works. So, I want to give you a picture of how it fleshed out in the Hagan house – step by step using the “Getting Started” section from the God cards poster to guide us along the way. It is one thing to tell you how to do it, but another thing to show you the Hagan people really doing it! And you will see we often take detours depending on the moment and what is interesting to...

“Pick 3 – an idea for veggie eating!” (eat)

“Pick 3 – an idea for veggie eating!” (eat)

In the download “Steps in our Story and Ideas for Yours,” I talk about an idea to help my kids eat those veggies. We have turned the vegetable consumption into a game that is working – we lovingly call it “pick 3.” Quite simply, I cut up a bunch of veggies, put them in a Tupperware, add a bit of water to the bottom and keep them chilling in the refrigerator. For most meals, I just pull out the Tupperware and the kids get to choose any 3 different veggies to eat! Sometimes, the number changes depending on whatever else we may be eating. But on average, 3 is the magic number! If I am really working hard that week, I may use a fancy cutter...
