This year we tried something different with the Story cards. Instead of going through each card week by week, we just put all of them on the Family board and grabbed a version of the Bible called The Story. It is a chronological retelling of the Bible published by Zondervan – pretty cool. Our kids liked it, and it was a different way to discover Father’s heart for us in his Word right from the start. We read a chapter or two each time we sat down together and then looked for Story cards as we read. It was rich to take a piece of Scripture and find the Story cards hidden within it. It gave the kids a different understanding of each card as they had to defend...

I believe God plays hide and seek. The kids chose this card, because they had played many games of hide and seek while on the trip. So, this picture triggered an immediate experience. This is the goal with the God cards. Our kids know the fun of hide and seek, the thrill of finding just the right place and the anticipation of being found! It is a great metaphor for Father. He too waits to found. After dinner, we all sat around the table with some paper and markers. We went around the circle and read each verse on...
Read MoreThe Hagan family adventured to Breckenridge, Colorade this first week of January to ski and study with some family friends of ours. The intent – ski like crazy by day and experience the God cards together by night. We were together with 3 other families that had never heard of the God cards. So, it was an incredible time to share this part of the Plan with them and converse together on this great topic of Father God. Night 1 at Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs (amazing!) – We began with our story, the story of The Whole Peach and our prayer for the week – encounter the person of God as he explains himself in his word, and oh yeah, ski like crazy!...

As we continued the focus on God card #6 – I believe God is Christmas, we decided to paint the picture of where we have come from and what place in history does the Christmas story rest through the fun of a scavenger hunt! We gave each one of them a slip of paper with some things written on them that they had to find and bring back to the kitchen table. And it was from these things that we painted the picture! Maya: picture of clouds, wrapping paper roll, mirror Ada: people, baby Jesus, cross Carson: sword, dragon, people, rock It was a...
Read MoreWe continue this week with God card #6 – I believe God is Christmas. He is a generous giver of great gifts. We weren’t ready to move on, still so much to discuss. As I began the day at the kitchen table, I found my Bible already there waiting for some conversation. So, I just opened it and found myself at the end of Matthew. Strange, I said to Father. The last chapter of Matthew, the death, crucifixion, the resurrection and now the Great Commission. Is this what is on your mind? We are talking about Christmas, you know. Shouldn’t I be at the front end of this deal? But I read on. The Great Commission, some of the last red letters in the Bible. His...
