“More than a Conqueror . . . in study hall” – (sing)

We have been singing from the new Seeds CD – Seeds of Character this week. “More Than a Conqueror” is a family favorite, a combination of the catchy tune but mainly the fun dance moves they learned at a Seeds Family Worship Night. ANYWAYS, Romans 8:37 is top of mind in our home. That is the beauty of the Sing tool. The kids begin singing the verse; the verse gets planted in their heart. A situation comes and the verse jumps in the middle of the situation arming my child with strength or a solution. This is the power of God’s word as he intends. This is the way scripture memory works. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,...

“A Torn Up Bible!” (study)

Posted by on Dec 18, 2011 in A Plan, A Tool, Blog | 0 comments

a note from my journal. . . Carson was in the living room swiffering in order to get his Dove chocolate. That was the deal he made with Ron. So, anyways, we were still at the kitchen table from dinner, and Carson is talking to us from the living room. All kinds of words – then he says – “hey, Mom, I talked about you on Sunday. My teacher in class was talking about her Bible being torn up and stuff. So, I raised my hand and told her that my mom says a messed up Bible is good. That means you are using it.” What a gift! I just love it. A great story of Carson catching the story and then sharing it. Thanks, Father, for that gift tonight.

Say Yes – part 5 – “Stories from the Toolbox” (study and breathe)

“The classical Disciplines of the spiritual life call us to move beyond surface living into the depths. . . . The purpose of the Disciplines is liberation from the stifling slavery. . . . The Disciplines allow us to place ourselves before God so that he can transform us. . . . They are meant to bring the abundance of God into our lives.” Richard Foster in Celebration of Discipline I wanted to share with you some Spiritual Discipline stories from my journey thus far, a few quick stories about Bible Study, Fasting and Journaling. Engaging in these activities is another great way to respond to Father God’s love. There are many more disciplines than I will discuss...

Say Yes – part 4 – “The Right Accessories for the Walking”

Posted by on Dec 15, 2011 in A Plan, A Story, A Tool, Blog | 0 comments

So, you might be done with this metaphor of mine, but I hope you will give me one more moment to talk about – “Walking in the Yes!” Again, the “Yes” that I am referring to is your response to Father God’s story – his pursuit of your heart, his gift of life, and his constant desire for a conversation. Have you “opened your door to him” (Romans 8)? If so, then I hope that you are “weaving and reaching” – weaving him in to your day to day by reaching out for him in prayer and conversation amidst the details of your day. And lest I ever let you forget – He has already said yes to you, and he endlessly reaches for you with his love. “I have...

“Press Play!” (sing)

Yesterday, Carson was working on an essay in the living room. We were all writing about the book we just finished – Pilgrim’s Progress. I had each of them take a theme from the book and create a paragraph explaining that theme and relating it to their world. We wrote the introduction together. Pilgrim’s Progress shows us through the characters of Christian and Christiana what to do in times of trouble. They are on a physical journey to Celestial City but teach us many things about our own spiritual journey. Through their experiences, they teach us to ‘remember, trust and pray’ when we have a problem. Maya had the great idea to include a...

“Our Word for 2010 – Harmony!” (evaluate)

Posted by on Jan 11, 2010 in A Plan, A Tool, Blog | 0 comments

Our year began, not with the traditional making of resolutions, but with our family making a new habit. The idea came from some family friends of ours. Each year, they set family goals both collectively and individually. And we thought it was a cool idea! After talking with Father God and reflecting on the needs of our house, Ron and I decided that a great family goal for the Hagan’s this year would be: HARMONY. As we asked for it, Father God gave this word to us. And as we have studied the Bible and the idea of “Harmony,” we have some great words for you as well. “I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one...
