“Pick 3 – an idea for veggie eating!” (eat)

In the download “Steps in our Story and Ideas for Yours,” I talk about an idea to help my kids eat those veggies. We have turned the vegetable consumption into a game that is working – we lovingly call it “pick 3.”

Quite simply, I cut up a bunch of veggies, put them in a Tupperware, add a bit of water to the bottom and keep them chilling in the refrigerator. For most meals, I just pull out the Tupperware and the kids get to choose any 3 different veggies to eat! Sometimes, the number changes depending on whatever else we may be eating. But on average, 3 is the magic number! If I am really working hard that week, I may use a fancy cutter that makes the veggies look cool. Otherwise, the deal is done once I get them cut!

The time consuming part of this endeavor is cleaning and cutting the veggies. But you will end up saving yourself time in the long run if you just crank it out all at once. So often, we buy the veggies and then never take them from the refrigerator to get them eaten. Or we just have time to do one and the kiddos complain about the one you chose. If you do a variety and do it all at one time, the dish looks more fun, and it gives your kids shared control. They get to choose what they put in their mouth, and you are great with any of the choices present in the Tupperware.

The veggies change too depending on the season and what I have bought at the store. For the picture you see here, I have carrots, celery, red, yellow and orange peppers, jicama (Carson’s favorite), daikon radish and cucumber. You can also pull out the Ranch dressing, hummus or any other dip to keep the veggie eating lively too!!!

When it comes to eating healthy, I am always looking for simple and fun! So, this is an idea working in the Hagan house. Give it a go!
