“What Really Happened at the Hagan House!” (God card #3 – Artist)

Posted by on Mar 6, 2013 in A Language, A Plan, Blog, God Cards | 0 comments

So, you have purchased the God cards and looked over the handy poster that comes with them. You read the introduction, agreed with the importance of this endeavor and attempted to understand the “Getting Started” section, but you still aren’t quite sure how this works. So, I want to give you a picture of how it fleshed out in the Hagan house – step by step using the “Getting Started” section from the God cards poster to guide us along the way. It is one thing to tell you how to do it, but another thing to show you the Hagan people really doing it! And you will see we often take detours depending on the moment and what is interesting to...

“Pick 3 – an idea for veggie eating!” (eat)

In the download “Steps in our Story and Ideas for Yours,” I talk about an idea to help my kids eat those veggies. We have turned the vegetable consumption into a game that is working – we lovingly call it “pick 3.” Quite simply, I cut up a bunch of veggies, put them in a Tupperware, add a bit of water to the bottom and keep them chilling in the refrigerator. For most meals, I just pull out the Tupperware and the kids get to choose any 3 different veggies to eat! Sometimes, the number changes depending on whatever else we may be eating. But on average, 3 is the magic number! If I am really working hard that week, I may use a fancy cutter...

“Shoulders Back!” (God card #42 – Warrior)

Posted by on Mar 2, 2013 in A Language, A Plan, Blog, God Cards | 0 comments

For me in this week, “Shoulders Back” was my act of faith, my acknowledgement of the battle going on and my offensive position in it all! “Shoulders Back” was my battle cry! “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, we have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 I was sitting in the doctor’s office with Carson, and we had been waiting for some time. My son, miserable with...

“God is our Warrior!” (God card #42 – Warrior)

This week, we are studying God card #42 – I believe God is my warrior! He fights for me! We read the verses, had some words about the verses and then went to drawing. The question I always use to get them drawing is this: “What jumps out at you from the verses? Is there a word or phrase that you remember? How would you draw what that verse is telling you?” That is usually enough to get the ball rolling or, in this case, the crayon creating. Check out the picture to see our responses. Like always, I think in words. So my paper is some notes on the verses. Ron went more abstract in his drawing, and Carson and Ada really resonated with the story from 2...

“2 Questions that Have Changed Our World – a focus on the Here and Now!” (evaluate)

Posted by on Feb 23, 2013 in A Plan, A Tool, Blog | 0 comments

Awhile back, Ron and I started asking each other 2 questions. I don’t know how it started or where the idea came from. But at the close of a week, at some point when we found a moment to actually look each other in the eye, we would reflect together with these 2 questions. Sometimes, it was on a date, a blissful date at the close of a hard week of work and kids. But other times, it was just on the couch after a show, at the table as the kids were getting ready for bed or in bed ourselves before we drifted off to sleep. We had no idea the power of these 2 questions in our marriage and now in our family as we have started doing it all together. It causes us to pause and...

“The Kitchen Table” (talk, sing and post)

Posted by on Feb 22, 2013 in A Plan, A Story, A Tool, Blog | 0 comments

I just made a list in my journal of the things I would love to accomplish today. There are too many and not enough time – I find this is the story of my life, but I greet the “undone” better than ever and just look to prioritize and choose well! So, I choose “The Kitchen Table.” I have words brewing in my heart and mind on the topic, and I must make sense of them through this medium of words. I often say that our kitchen table is the most important piece of furniture in our home, and once again, I celebrate this truth. Dinner last night and breakfast this morning were nothing short of miraculous, and I take a step from the crazy and mark the truth of the...
