The Power of TEAM

Posted by on Apr 30, 2013 in A Language, A Plan, Me Cards | 0 comments

A team is filled athletes who share a common purpose, commitment, and goals. In the Hagan house, we are involved in many teams that involve sports – whether on the baseball diamond or on the volleyball court. A team is strong in unique areas; a team fights for one another; a team wins together; and a team goes through adversity together. We believe in the power of TEAM. I believe Father God does too. He has created us in his image. In his image, in his being, there are three: Father, Son, and Spirit. Each of these is God. I believe he calls us into a team (community) in order to strengthen, fight, and win for each other. I saw this play out this week. A close...

“Ada’s Aha Moment” (God card #5 – Boomerang)

“Ada’s Aha Moment” (God card #5 – Boomerang)

We were doing our spelling this morning along with God card #5 – Boomerang. I believe God is coming back for me. Spelling looks like this: Whatever God card we are doing that week, I read verses from the card. Maya, Ada and Carson write the verses on a piece of paper. Whatever words they misspell becomes their spelling list for the week. Presto! Spelling is done on words they actually don’t know how to spell. The words are from the Bible, pretty good place to find some words. And it is one more touch to get these verses “working” in their minds and hearts! I like to call it a “win-win.” Carson doesn’t see it that way, but that is...

“Tucking the Girls Into Bed”

I was tucking the girls into bed last night, and somehow we got on a discussion about baptism. I think they had mentioned at church that they were going to have a baptism soon. Perhaps that is why it was on Maya’s mind. She has been contemplating it for some time now. And so the conversation goes like this. Maya: “Mom, I really need to think about this baptism thing.” Me: “Sure honey, whenever you and Father make that decision that it is time to tell the world, you go for it.” Maya: “Yea. I know.” Me: “Good night, girlies. Love you soooo much!” Maya: “Mom, you know that is why I like the God cards. Well the Me...

Maya and Father’s Great Conversation! (Story card #4 and study)

Maya and Father’s Great Conversation! (Story card #4 and study)

We want our children to know that Father God speaks. In all kinds of ways, he is looking for conversation and relationship. He created everything, so why wouldn’t he use all aspects of his creation to draw us to his love and attention? In this moment, he used the Bible to remind Maya that he is watching over her all the time. In this moment, Maya will never forget she has a Father in heaven speaking to her! The picture above tells the story best, but let me give you a few words too. We were studying Psalm 103. As I write, I have no memory as to why. I do love that chapter, and for some reason, we were letting it rest over us. Anyways, after we read the chapter,...

“Having Church on the Way to Baseball” (God card #30 – Hide and Seek)

“Having Church on the Way to Baseball” (God card #30 – Hide and Seek)

We were all driving to Burleson for day two of a baseball tournament for Carson. It was Sunday, and we were on the move. So, we had church in the car, and this is how it went – simple but great stuff! The God card for this week is #30. I believe God plays hide and seek. He wants to be found. 1. We passed the God card around the car, and everyone read a verse. 2. I then asked: “What phrase do you remember? Which verse stands out to you?” Carson liked Jeremiah 29, because that is his baseball number! And as we were driving to a game, it struck close to home. And so it went. It was important that we all went around and just shared a simple thought. 3. Second...

“What Really Happened at the Hagan House!” (God card #4 – Blanket/Mr. Bear)

“What Really Happened at the Hagan House!” (God card #4 – Blanket/Mr. Bear)

We are focusing on God card #4 this week – God is our Blanket/Mr. Bear. I believe God comforts me. For our children, blankets were very important when they were young. Nap time would not happen unless the blanket was present! For Carson, his Mr. Bears were also very important. He actually has 2 Mr. Bears. They were were given to Maya and Ada as a baby gift, and they never took to them. When Carson was a baby, I put them in his crib more for decoration than anything else. But as he grew, I began noticing he would wake up from a nap with them in hand. I began calling them his Mr. Bears, and it stuck. Ada and Maya are not exactly happy with this God card, because I...
