“Run After Her!”

“So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.” Luke 15:20 I love the stories in Luke 15 – stories of Father God’s love. In the Lost Sheep, he won’t stop until he finds each one of us. However broken or weak we might be, he deems us important enough to find. In the Lost Coin, I also see a crazy love. He will look under every cushion to find us. No matter that he already has 9 coins, the search for the lost one is worth it. And then there is the story of the Prodigal Son. A son comes to his father and tells him that he has decided to leave;...

“Roll Down the Windows and Sing!”

I was talking on the phone to a friend of mine the other day. She is recently walking through some difficult days, days that demand more strength than she has. Days that have been filled with tears, accusation, hurt, betrayal, sickness, and pain. Her details have fallen apart, and she is beginning again in more ways than she wants to count. With this, she has met Father God again, and they have been having some rich conversations. I wanted to share her words with you. “Karla, I lived a life of justification and rationalization. The standard I held for myself was low, and I made too many allowances – for my husband, my job, my children, etc. I had money, stability...

In the middle of making coffee and emptying the dishwasher, one of my many thoughts was this: What card is this week? So, after I poured my cereal and found my place at the kitchen table, I opened up the Plan and for this week of February 3-9, the topic was God card #24 – Longs for our love! Ahhh. . . This is going to be a rich conversation. So, after all three little people living in our home woke up and had cereal of their own, we made our way into some conversation. We started our God card discussion like most. Everyone got out their Bibles. We read the God card title and talked about what it meant. Everyone looked up a verse from the card and read their verses....

“Raising Compelled Children not Compliant Children!”

The Story cards along with the God and Me cards are first our own experience of redemption and rescue. Father God loved us, saved us, spoke to us and won. He thinks about us, looks for us, tells us in terms that we get it, puts his arms around us, kisses us on the forehead, calls us by a new name and includes us in his family. This is the truth of the Bible! If you sift through all of those big words of systematic theology and if you read for yourself the words in the Bible, this is the story you get. And that language, the language of a story, motivates me. It draws me, and I want to respond. Much of the spiritual formation or Christian curriculum out there fills your...
