This week, we are studying God card #42 – I believe God is my warrior! He fights for me! We read the verses, had some words about the verses and then went to drawing. The question I always use to get them drawing is this: “What jumps out at you from the verses? Is there a word or phrase that you remember? How would you draw what that verse is telling you?” That is usually enough to get the ball rolling or, in this case, the crayon creating. Check out the picture to see our responses. Like always, I think in words. So my paper is some notes on the verses. Ron went more abstract in his drawing, and Carson and Ada really resonated with the story from 2...
Read MoreAwhile back, Ron and I started asking each other 2 questions. I don’t know how it started or where the idea came from. But at the close of a week, at some point when we found a moment to actually look each other in the eye, we would reflect together with these 2 questions. Sometimes, it was on a date, a blissful date at the close of a hard week of work and kids. But other times, it was just on the couch after a show, at the table as the kids were getting ready for bed or in bed ourselves before we drifted off to sleep. We had no idea the power of these 2 questions in our marriage and now in our family as we have started doing it all together. It causes us to pause and...
Read MoreI just made a list in my journal of the things I would love to accomplish today. There are too many and not enough time – I find this is the story of my life, but I greet the “undone” better than ever and just look to prioritize and choose well! So, I choose “The Kitchen Table.” I have words brewing in my heart and mind on the topic, and I must make sense of them through this medium of words. I often say that our kitchen table is the most important piece of furniture in our home, and once again, I celebrate this truth. Dinner last night and breakfast this morning were nothing short of miraculous, and I take a step from the crazy and mark the truth of the...

Read MoreWe came again to the conversation of Me card #5 – I am totally forgiven. And for this discussion, we used a simple piece of white copy paper and some markers to get the ideas working in our minds and hearts! It was such a rich conversation. We were all at the kitchen table – Bible, Me card #5, copy paper and markers! That was it! We talked about the card. We looked up the verse. We highlighted the verse and wrote in the margin – Me card #5 next to Colossians 2:13-14. I then asked them to fold the paper into four squares. I was kind of making this up as I went along. In the first square, I told them to write the Me card title and verse address. In the...
Read MoreIn the middle of making coffee and emptying the dishwasher, one of my many thoughts was this: What card is this week? So, after I poured my cereal and found my place at the kitchen table, I opened up the Plan and for this week of February 3-9, the topic was God card #24 – Longs for our love! Ahhh. . . This is going to be a rich conversation. So, after all three little people living in our home woke up and had cereal of their own, we made our way into some conversation. We started our God card discussion like most. Everyone got out their Bibles. We read the God card title and talked about what it meant. Everyone looked up a verse from the card and read their verses....
